The central motif with triple rosettes draws a large stylized blooming flower accompanied by eight exploded pendants around it.
Looking closely at the drawing, we appreciate the multitude of details and its delicacy.
This motif is surrounded by numerous other flowers covering the field, intertwined like sinuous branches.
The wide border, made up of varied motifs, palmettes and alternating branches, is inspired by old models from Herat.
The whole of this piece is in good condition, the velvet clean, the edges slightly worn as well as the short fringes.
The general condition is very good. We do not observe any reduction in the pile, the kork wool used is of first quality because of its great finesse in its preparation.
The colors are fresh, soft and delicate, certainly they have lost their vigor but without loss of color and not insolated.
The deep shades, red and blue blend perfectly with the cream that supports many other colors, as well as a hint of orange, almond green, very pale blue, curry...
Note, the quality of the border and its two braids that accompany it. Kork wool is the softest and silkiest wool taken exclusively from the first shearing of lambs, mainly under the neck and belly.
A beautiful old carpet, the most beautiful effect embellished with the patina that one seeks on this type of antique.
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran.
At the time of the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet creation of legendary splendour.
Carpets with fine weaving, of a very great richness of composition, were knotted by the royal factory of the Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of rug production began with rugs that are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their dense and tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs. I invite you to look at our Proantic gallery where we offer many old rugs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
