Exceptional ceremonial stool called "placet" from the Louis XIV period, in carved wood (walnut) and silk velvet tapestry.

The sculpture is very nervous with with a very beautiful movement of carved and molded H spacer, and protruding parts of its feet. , and feet projecting parts. The various parts are obviously pegged. The set consists of stool itself and a very thick and soft cushion, finished at its 4 corners with elegant woven pompoms.

Perfect condition, some worm bites related to its age.
Upholstery and textile have been perfectly redone with a very beautiful Louis XIV style silk velvet.

"The History of stool, a privilege and power piece of furniture.

During Louis XIV reign, the stool became an object of lust because few people present at court were authorized to sit on it.
'Stool' even designates the privileged who are willing to be able to do so if we are to believe the Memoirs of the Duke of Saint-Simon. From now on, the stool is a real social distinction, disputed in high level.

D'Argenson, then Louis XIV's Justice Minister, is said to have demanded to obtain a stool for his wife, so that she could sit near the Queen. Until now, only duchesses could sit on the stool. XIV, Anne of Austria, once allowed two women to sit on stools in her presence, although they were not duchesses. If this decision caused big trouble among the high nobility who went so far as to sign a protest in 1649, it gives definitly of stool  privilege and honor values, granted to few people."
