He had acquired the reputation of the best orientalist painter in Egypt in the 19th century. Nicola Forcella taught at the Khedivial School of Applied Arts in Egypt, where he was awarded the Imperial Order of Medjidie. He has a brother, Paolo (1868-?), who studied painting in Naples, and accompanied him to Egypt
