Description
Egg tempera on wood, Russia
Circa. 1800
The Mother of God is shown frontal, with her hands raised in the orans position covered by the maphorion and the chiton clothes. Christ is shown within a round aureole upon her breast. Christ is blessing with his right hand and holding a scroll in his left hand.
This iconography is a derivation of Isaiah's prophecy: "The Lord himself will give you a sign, a Virgin will conceive a Son and his name will be Emmanuel"
The central figures are surrounded by the sides with 4 Saints, one of them; Saint Nicholas.
It has somewhat “hard to explain” divine aura with a golden glow which makes it very special. A rare collector item.

22x18 cm.
Condition
Great overall condition. Some paint missing at the bottom corners, beautiful craquelure and patina as expected
