Object description :

"A Louis XV Table De Tric-trac Stamped By Denis-louis Ancellet Jurande Jme."
Louis XV period backgammon table by Denis-Louis Ancellet. Tric-trac table from the Louis XV period, rectangular shape in solid mahogany wood and Cuban mahogany veneers, ebony veneer, natural and tinted ivory inlays on oak and resinous core. Rectangular quadrilateral in shape, its belt opens on its longitudinal parts by two drawers, head to tail on either side of it. A tray inlaid with a checkerboard slides into a cavity reserved for this purpose in the lower part of the latter. A reversible mobile top surrounded by a mahogany gallery forming a stopper caps the table. The top of this one acting as a desk is veneered with a dark mahogany frame of a gilded Havana morocco with small irons on its reverse, is stretched with a playing mat in order to shuffle the cards and getter the dice. Once the tray has been deposited, a tank with two compartments is revealed in order to practice games of backgammon or backgammon. The tray inlaid with a checkerboard is positioned in a light touch above these in order to indulge in the game of checkers. Each of the boxes is inlaid with four-lobed carnations in natural ivory and points also in ivory and green-tinted ivory on an ebony veneer background. The set rests on a fine base with four arched legs, raised at their hoof ends. A beautiful chiseled bronze ornamentation adorns the whole such as keyholes, angular spandrels and slatted clogs. Work of the Parisian master Denis-Louis Ancellet from the Louis XV period, from the middle of the 18th century around 1750. It should be noted that this type of backgammon table of this size is extremely rare from the Louis XV period, because usually later, from the Louis XVI period, but Denis-Louis Ancellet was more of a precursor because he was the specialist in this type of table. Dimensions: length ..cm, depth ...cm and height ..cm. Denis-Louis Ancellet Master in Paris on December 3, 1766 was advisor to the corporation of carpenters - cabinetmakers of Paris. In 1791, when Louis XVI restored the Château de Saint Cloud to receive the Court there, he received from the Garde-Meuble an important order of around sixty pieces. His favorite production was the trictrac tables but he produced a large number of pieces of furniture, consoles, bouillotte tables, flat and cylinder desks, secretaries, bookcases, in the Louis XVI style, made of mahogany, most often adorned with copper rods and of marquetry. His stamp was associated with that, prestigious, of Adam Weisweiller, which shows that the two cabinetmakers worked together.
