"Stew Spoon, Douai 1729, Ch.-j. Bis, Sterling Silver"
Extremely rare basting spoon emblazoned, in sterling silver with the hallmarks of the city of Douai for the year 1729 and of the master goldsmith Charles Joseph Bis, member of a line of goldsmiths. It is quite large and heavy and is engraved with a nineteenth-century alliance coat of arms and a motto "Foecundat imber", the rain fertilizes the earth. This is the coat of arms of a member of the Imbert de Phalencque family, nobility of Flanders. It weighs 125 grams.
