Gilded bronze medal, Saint Anthony and Saint Catherine, 17th century
This medal shows on the obverse Saint Anthony of Padua depicted with his traditional attributes: wearing the monastic habit, he holds a lily in his left hand. With his right hand, he keeps the Infant Jesus crowned with a radiating halo, who appears standing on an open book. On the edge: "S.ANTON D.PAD.CONF" for "Saint Anthony of Padua Confessor". On the reverse, Saint Catherine of Alexandria is depicted crowned, with the palm leaf of martyrs and the toothed wheel of her torture. On the edge: "S.CATHARINA.ORA.PR.NO" for "Saint Catherine Pray For Us". The medal is signed by a monogram (on the left of Saint Catherine).
Good condition, nice chasing, worn out gilding on some reliefs. The medal seems never have had a ring (see picture 4), it was probably in a setting.
