Bronze pax, 17th century

In arch shape with a swelled frieze on the edge, this pax depicts the entombment of Christ. Shown sit on the rim of a baroque style tomb, the Christ is with the Virgin Mary on the right, and held on the left by a male character, whether Saint John or Joseph of Arimethea. He is helped by two angels standing on the back, what is a rather uncommon representation because it's usually other biblical characters that are depicted in this scene. The background shows on the left the Golgotha Mount with the Cross of Christ and those of the two thieves, and on the right the city of Jerusalem. On the top, the Holy Spirit appears as a dove in the clouds.

Attached on the back by two iron nails, a flat ribbon handle allows for seizure. The back shows a signature chased on the bottom left:" P✱CARL " .

Very good condition.
