The peaceful and bucolic atmosphere of rural life by the sea in the 19th century for this large oil on canvas by the Provençal painter Eugène de Barbériis.

Pupil of Bouguerreau, Tony Robert-Fleury, Detaille and Berne-Bellecour, Eugène de Barbériis exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1878 to 1901.
In its early days, it mainly presented subjects showing the daily life of soldiers: "En faction, December" in 1890, "A corvée" in 1892, "Egarés" 1893, "Fraternité" 1894.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Marseille retains his "Love and Fatherland".
He moved back to Marseilles in 1890 and turned to landscape painting.
In 1912, he showed 80 canvases illustrating the city of Marseille and its surroundings at the Central Gallery of Modern Art in Marseille.
