Object description :

"The Abduction Of Ganymede - Eger Intarsia From The Early 17th Century"

Rare relief marquetry panel made in Eger (Bohemia) at the beginning of the 17th century and representing the Abduction of Ganymede by Jupiter, after an engraving by Crispin de Passe from 1602.

The dimensions are 35 x 17.5 cm for the marquetry and 39 x 21.5 cm including the later frame.

Almost absent from French public collections, Eger's intarsias are better represented in those of the V&A :http://collections.vam.ac.uk/place/cheb/x47166/
or in those of Dresden's museums : https: / /skd-online-collection.skd.museum/Home/Index?page=1&q=reliefintarsie

This website is dedicated to them : http://www.reliefintarsien.de/index.html

Their presence on the market remains exceptional :https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2016/sculptures-objets-art-europeens-pf1610/lot.40.html
