Beautiful portrait of a man that we can say of the nobility or the rich bourgeoisie of Aix en Provence or Marseille at the end of the 17th century around 1690. Everything indicates his elevated position, he wears a large cape of silky royal blue fabric with distributed patterns called “quarte-sheets” and long red ribbons, the high “royal” wig obligatory in its position, this long curly curly falling on the shoulders and, around its neck, a tie scalloped with fine white lace.
Character represented during the reign of Louis XIV from the southern school known in this case from Aix-Marseille, a period which saw the remarkable emergence of this type of portrait of which Laurent Fauchier in Aix en Provence (1643-1672) was the master, Joseph Cellony (the father: 1663-1731) was influenced by it and had through his personal talent a fine production of portraits considered and noticed in 1692 by the number and the quality.
Portrait in very good condition, on its period frame, previously lined, small restorations.
