"Marquis's Letter Box, Leather, Early 18th Century"
Mail box, box from the beginning of the 18th century in brown leather dotted with gilded ornamentation with small iron, fine floral motifs and a curled ribbon around the edges of each side.-The front is of beautiful appearance with its motifs and friezes remaining well gilded, front including its lock and key working well.-The opening flap presents a large embossed coat of arms, formerly gilded, dominated by a marquis' crown and composed of alliance coats of arms, a beautiful scallop shell finishes it at the base, two floral pendants surround it.-The interior is dressed in a fine velvet with gilded braid in the surrounds, interior in good condition.-Condition of the box: The leather, if it is not perfect, due to small defects which do not detract from the appearance, enhances the beautiful origin of this box (see photos).-The interior is very clean which makes it very clean to use.
Normal traces of use but moderate for a very beautiful 18th century object.
Lock and key in good condition. Original brass fittings. External dimensions: Height: 33.8cm Width: 21.4cm Depth at base: 13.4cm.
