Nain Rug (iran)

Nain carpet (Iran) in Wool and Silk measuring 1.82 meters x 1.06 meters. The town of Nain is renowned the world over for the elegance of its rugs. Carpet weaving began there in 1930, and first-rate production has never been abundant. The structure of the Dwarves is in Cotton, more rarely in Silk, the latter on the other hand is always used during weaving to underline the contours of the design. This technique, called gharty, is the main characteristic of the Dwarves. The colors used are chosen among cold tones: blue, hazelnut and cream; and the silk is generally white, the designs almost monotonous by dint of repetition: rounded medallions taken from the spandrels, floral volutes on the spot, herat edges.
