Tortoiseshell And Gold Box With Miniature On Ivory. Late 18th Century.
Brown tortoiseshell box with gold mounting. The lid is embellished with rinceau and openwork palmettes. These motifs frame a circular miniature on ivory. The miniature, which dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, features five cupids quenching their thirst at a fountain with a dolphin on top. The sides of the box are ringed with gold and accented with rose motifs.
