Exceptional Enamelled Earthenware Dish With Cloisonne Decor Signed Emile Granger. Sèvres
Artist: Emile Granger.
We offer you this exceptional enameled earthenware dish with polychrome cloisonne decoration representing blue tits on flowering cherry branches. Dating from the 1880s, it is signed Emile Granger who wasa painter at the Manufacture Royale de Sèvres. Emile Granger also collaborated with Félix Optat Milet, whose factory, located in Sèvres, allowed the Manufacture's painters to express their creativity and leave the imposed decorations. The decoration of this dish owes a lot to the influence of Japan, very popular with the avant-garde of the time. It is remarkable for the palette of colors used and the richness of its cloisonne decor. It constitutes one of the first testimonies of the craze for Japanese art at the end of the 19th century.
