Ink and pencil drawing of an odalisque, unsigned, attributed to Clément-Auguste Andrieux, part of a set of drawings and sketches by the artist from a private collection. Under glass, under mat, in a Second Empire frame. Dimensions at sight of the drawing 11x15 cm Total dimensions, with frame, 25.5x29.5 cm Clément-Auguste Andrieux, born December 7, 1829 in Paris and died in Samois on May 15, 18801 is a French painter who specialized in military scenes and gender. He was a realist painter who was then influenced by Gustave Courbet and Carolus Duran. He is the author of etchings, drawings and lithographs. Born in Paris, Andrieux studied painting and drawing with Alcide-Joseph Lorentz (1813-1889) and Charles Gleyre. He took part in the Paris Salon from 1850 to 1880. There he presented paintings inspired by the wars of the First Empire, the Crimean War, the Franco-German war of 1870-71. In numerous drawings and watercolors, he has depicted the provincial firefighters, the national guards, the communards, the citizens of 1793. He is part of the team of designers for the four-volume edition of the Le Diable suite. in Paris (Jules Hetzel, 1868). He collaborated for Le Monde Illustré during the war of 1870 which he witnessed. Andrieux engraved an etching, L'Affaire de Châtillon (September 1870), and lithographs, for example La Garde nationale au village (suite of seven humorous lithographs), and an album, Souvenirs d'un besieé de September 1870 in January 1871, series of 30 lithographs on the siege of Paris. He ended his days near Fontainebleau. He leaves a young son at his death; an auction was organized in May 1881 to help him.
