Of Gilt Bronze Candelabra
Artist: Attribué Pierre Philippe Thomire Ou Choiselat
An exceptional pair of Empire / Restoration period candelabra by Thomire or Choiselat
Winged victory ornament in patinated bronze
Wearing sheer dresses with a rounded neckline and gathered by a belt under her breasts above a long underskirt that flares out above her ankles, with a crown in her hair that is gathered into a bun and is then arranged in two locks that fall over her shoulders, her exquisite feathered wings flowing behind her as she gazes down holding in her raised arms a laurel wreath from which six leafy branches emerge
like a vase mounted below by stiff leaves and a berry boss and crowned by an acanthus leaf top, each figure of Victory standing on tiptoe on a plain sphere resting on a square pedestal adorned on the face of a trophy of arms with shield, lion head, helmet, ax, spears, arrow and trunk
