This oil on wood measures 35cm x 28cm and its period Flemish frame with inverted profile, in thuja bramble veneer, interspersed with blackened sticks is in a very good state of conservation (60cm x 65cm). Sold with a certificate of authenticity. This painting from the second half of the 17th century represents a witchcraft scene: “the arrival on the Sabbath”. It is the work of a Flemish artist of the 17th century. This type of representation was created by the artist David Teniers the younger, who became famous for the distribution of engravings. David Teniers II, known as the Younger, born in Antwerp on December 15, 1610 and died in Brussels on April 25, 1690, is a Flemish painter, engraver, engraver, designer, miniaturist painter and copyist. He is an extremely versatile artist known for his prolific output. He is an innovator in a wide range of genres such as history, genre, landscape, portraiture and still life. He is best known as the first genre painter of his time. Teniers is particularly known for having developed the peasant genre, the tavern scene, images from art collections and scenes with alchemists and witches.
