Monumental perfume burner, Japan, Meiji In patinated bronze, this incense burner is composed of a cover surmounted by a protective samurai; the body decorated with two medallions representing on one side a scene of a samurai, and sacred birds on the other, surrounded by two handles with dragons; resting on a plinth with double struts with arched feet decorated with Fo dogs. Stamp on the base of the body and on the base. Provenance: Luxembourg private collection This incense burner is a refined bronze artefact made in Japan and intended for export to Europe and the USA, where such objects were greatly appreciated and exhibited with constancy in the Japanese pavilions of world exhibitions organized from the major cities of the planet.
