Object description :

"18th Century French School, Entourage Of Nattier - Portrait Of Lady In Its Original Frame"
18th century French School, portrait of an elegant aristocrat from the early Louis XV period, oil on canvas. She wears a yellow dress, is draped in a gauze stole with lines (of a model which had a great success at the beginning of the 18th century and which one also finds on portraits of man). She is wearing a powdered wig and a thin straw hat (?) Decorated with a blue ribbon. The comparative analysis of the clothes, the hairstyle and the pose which one finds on dated portraits of sovereigns, makes it possible to identify with certainty the period according to the fashion of the moment. This portrait was produced at the beginning of the Louis XV period, in the years 1735 - 1740. It is presented in its original frame in carved and gilded wood, with pigtail patterns, shells in the corners, also. Louis XV period. Our portrait is not identified, nor signed but quite in the taste of Jean Jacques Nattier, or of his entourage. It emerges a great freshness of this face. The lady is beautiful, the contrasts of her face and makeup are delicately accentuated. The pose is elegant, the rendering of the perfect drape, as well as the outfit that recalls that of the beautiful fashionable shepherdesses at the time and finally the management of light expertly studied to illuminate the beauty of this young woman. Our aristocrat is unfortunately not identified, but the painting is certainly an original work of a lady of high birth. Jean-Marc Nattier (1685-1766), painter is recognized as one of the greatest portrait painters of the 18th century French. Coming from a painter's family, he started his career as a history painter, but ruined like many others by the collapse of Law's system, he then turned almost exclusively to painting portraits of high society and made a great reputation in this specialty. Official portrait painter of the Orleans family then of the court of Louis XV in 1748, he painted all the outstanding figures of his time, and among them Pierre le Grand, Marshal de Saxe, Empress Marie-Thérèse, Queen Marie Leszczyńska; Mesdames Henriette and Adélaïde, daughters of the king, who appeared at the Salon of 1758 and are in the Museum of Versailles; the dolphin ; the Dauphine; Mesdemoiselles de Beaujolais, de Chartres, de Clermont; etc. Very good condition, table cleaned (some blisters on the canvas), lined. Frame carved and gilded with gold leaf cleaned by our gilder (original gilding very well preserved). Very beautiful painting, bright and large format. Frame dimensions: 90 by 105cm Canvas dimensions: 65 by 80cm
