Valentine Henriette Jeanne Prax (1897-1981) was trained at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers, married the French sculptor Ossip Zadkine whose marriage took place in 1920 with the Foujita couple as witnesses. With her husband, she attended the avant-garde workshops of Montparnasse, where she discovered cubists and wild animals such as Picasso, Braque, Van Dogen, Cézanne, Apollinaire and Max Jacob.
