Charles Beaubrun studied painting with his cousin Henri Beaubrun (Ambroise 1603-1677 Paris).
On September 2, 1651, he became a member of the Royal Academy and later professor and treasurer of the academy.A well-known portraitist, he was commissioned by the British Ambassador to paint a portrait of Anne of Austria in 1638.
