Miniature On Louis XV Vellum.
This beautiful portrait of a man in breastplate is painted in gouache on vellum, the frame is in gold and set around the rim with Rhine stones or rhinestones mounted on silver.
The term strass appeared in 1746 takes its name from the Strasbourg jeweler Georges Frédéric Strass 1701-1773 inventor of this kind of crystal “stone”, he was the jeweler of the King of France.
It was originally the tie of a scarf.
