Large Pair Of Cantagalli Earthenware Vases, Late Nineteenth.

Large pair of covered earthenware baluster vases on pedestal with blue camaieu decoration on a white background of figures in the Italian countryside H: 58cm Excellent condition. Manufacture of Giuseppe Cantagalli, second part of the 19th century. The original Cantagalli manufactory was founded in Florence at the end of the 16th century. It was revived and up to date by Giuseppe Cantagalli who directed it until his death in 1878. It was then taken over by his two sons Ulysses (1839-1901) and Romeo (1838-1905). The name of the factory was Figli di Giuseppe Cantagalli. It was quickly recognized for the quality of its manufacture and its style of production which took up the standards of Renaissance ceramics. The manufacture participated in the Italian exhibition in London in 1888. Its productions reproducing the style of Renaissance ceramics as well as its direct copies of majolica known from the Italian, French and English collections were also famous and appreciated for their high decorative quality.
