Sunset Over The Pyramids In Egypt, Oil / Canvas By Carl Wuttke, Orientalist Painter

This large painting, oil on canvas 57.5 x 84.5 centimeters and 77 x 103.5 with its frame, dated and signed 1907 lower left is characteristic of the colorful work of this German orientalist painter who traveled in the the whole world at a time when travel was not common .

The Sunset over the Pyramids is treated particularly well at an age when Wuttke had mastered his craft.

Born in Trebnitz, Poland, in 1849, and died in Munich in 1927, he first studied in Berlin from 1871 to 1873 at the University of the Arts, then moved to Munich From 1874 to 76, he went to Italy (he traveled through Italy several times as well as Sardinia and Sicily in his life, then Spain, Andalusia, Norway, Algeria, Sudan and Egypt, the United States in 1893, China and Japan from 1897 to 1899 where he made his world tour.
