"Pottery Of Accolay (1945-1989). Pitcher. 1960s."
Height: 25 cm. Width of the handle from the pitcher to the spout: 22 cm. Signed Accolay on the base.We group together under the term Poterie d'Accolay the production of a community of potters settled in the village of Accolay, in the Yonne department (FRANCE). This production center was created by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda.
Very diverse creations:
The ceramic character models and wire structure are among the most representative pieces.
The leader of the Accolay potters team, André Boutaud, passionate about chess, will produce many game pieces using this technique.
The vases and pottery with a scratched mat blue glaze were inspired by the ancient ceramics discovered in Burgundy.
A vast series of pieces in chamotte or glazed earth received graphic decorations of ethnic, Inca or Aztec inspiration.
Along with these pieces were created ceramic masks reminiscent of the early arts.
The research carried out on the retraction of certain enamels during firing led to the development of a characteristic speckled effect, similar to an animal's coat and reminiscent of the nuances of the Yonne landscapes. Technique used for this pitcher.
