OFFICER'S HELMET OF THE ONLY ENGINEERING BATTALION OF THE GERMAN EXPEDITIONARY BODY IN EAST ASIA, model 1871/1899, Deutsches Reich Pickelhaube Modell 1871/1899 für einen Officer of the einzigen Pionier-Bataillonen des Ostasiatischen Expeditionskorps, Second Reich. Rare copy having been worn by an officer of the only engineer battalion, comprising only three companies sent to East Asia in China. Patent leather bomb, rear ring and visor rim, movable chinstrap rosette, silver-plated brass point and base, stamped state plate of the model in use for the German Expeditionary Force in China showing the Prussian eagle bearing the German imperial crown with outstretched wings, chest loaded with the coat of arms of Prussia holding in its talons the symbols of power, scepter and globe, embroidered with the coat of arms of Prussia and framed with the Necklace of the Order of the Black Eagle of Prussia . Cockades of the model specific to the officers in the national colors black-white-red in metal and red felt. Brown leather chinstrap covered with scalloped flat scales alternating two and three brass festoons, upper scales of each chinstrap covered with a mobile rosette in silvered brass, independent of the chinstrap.
