Edmond Lachenal (1855-1948), Pitcher, Earthenware With Iridescent Decoration, Circa 1900
Designer, painter and sculptor, Edmond Lachenal was above all a remarkable ceramist.
From 1890, he devoted himself to sandstones, then to flamed sandstones, following one of the processes that he had developed, with the use of a transparent glaze which magnifies the shape of the piece by shading the hollow of a darker shade by accumulation.
In Paris, several pieces by him are kept at the Orsay Museum, the Decorative Arts Museum and the Petit Palais.
Our piece is a fine example of the refined metallic luster process which he invented and which is very characteristic of his production around 1900. Signed.
