Bronze Fireguard And Andirons, 19th Century

The 19th century, developing the notion of historical heritage, had very early nostalgia for a fantasized Middle Ages, where the vast rooms of fortified castles were decorated with coats of arms and tapestries inhabited by monsters and chimeras. From the second quarter of the 19th century, taste wanted to recreate this bewitching ideal in interiors which had gained enviable comfort. Craftsmen responded to this fashion by deploying treasures of creativity. Our fireplace set is a perfect example. All in bronze, the andirons are crowned with a menacing head between raptor and wild animal on a lion's paw: a griffin in short. Fireguard and andirons are in very good condition and will work well with an apartment fireplace.
