Taurus Louis XV clock Signed on the dial DUTERTRE A PARIS h. 51 cm, br. 38 cm Jean-Baptiste Dutertre the Younger 1705-1773 Jean-Baptiste Dutertre Junior or Jean-Jean was born around 1705 in Paris as the son of the watchmaker Jean Baptiste Dutertre and Catherine Le Noir. He was the brother of Nicolas Charles Dutertre and Nicolas Dutertre. He successfully completed his training as a watchmaker with his father. On June 23, 1735, Dutertre was appointed master craftsman. He was a resident at the Quai des Orfèvres. He became famous in his time for his magnificent watches, often decorated with figures and animals of Meissen. He used watch boxes from J. de Saint-Germain, B. Lieutaud and JB Osmond. Jean-Baptiste married Monique-Antoinette Le Cesne around 1740, this marriage gave birth to 5 children. His son Jean Baptiste François Dutertre succeeded him. Important clients included the president Bochard de Saron, the Marquis de Béringhen, de Ponts, de Marigny, de Chantemerele, the Duke of Penthièvre, the Duchess of Mazarin, the Count of La Marck, Mademoiselle Radix de Sainte-Foy, the Peletier de Mortefontaine and Argouges.
