Pierre DUMONT is one of the most original painters, and most unknown of the school of Rouen. Coming very young in Paris Pierre DUMONT lives there poorly in the district of La Ruche, then returns to Rouen around 1905, he paints very colored landscapes, in a fat paste and thick spread on the canvas as if he carved his vision. To restrain his "Fauve" temperament, Pierre DUMONT entered the Rouennaise Academy of Joseph Delattre, then founded with friends artists and writers the group of XXX which became in 1909 the Norman Society of Modern Painting. His first paintings were marked by the influences of Van Gogh and Cezanne. From about 1910 Pierre DUMONT began painting the cathedral of Rouen, from 1914 to 1919 he painted mainly the streets of Montmartre, the Notre Dame cathedral, the bridges of Paris and the banks of the Seine. From 1911 to 1916, Pierre DUMONT lives at the Bateau-Lavoir where he links with Picasso, who has kept a workshop there. Pierre Dumont made his first personal exhibition at the Galerie Malpel in 1914 where the vigor and intensity of his landscapes, especially in Paris, hit the critics and the public. In 1927 Pierre DUMONT undergoes his first mental crisis, but once restored, his exhibition at Durand-Ruel is a great success. From 1929 the health of Pierre DUMONT collapses and a hemiplegia deprives him of his right hand; he now paints clumsy canvases with his left hand that will hinder his work, which in its best period remains to be discoveredMuseums: National Museum of Modern Art, Paris, Montmartre Museum, Paris, Rouen Museum of Fine Arts, Troyes Museum of Modern Art, Dijon Fine Arts Museum, Menton Museum of Fine Arts, Collection "Painting in Normndie", Regional Council of Lower Normandy, Caen, Prefecture of Cantal, Aurillac, Consulate General of France, Rio de Janeiro, Museum of the Petit Palais, Geneva, Milwaukee Art Museum ( Wisconsin )
