Clairette Petrucci (1899-1994)
Belgian painter. Wife of sculptor Marcel Wolfers (1886-1976), Clairette Petrucci painted after training at La Grande Chaumière in Paris where she had, among others, Lucien Simon and René Ménard as teachers. Only daughter of the writer, sociologist, art critic, sinologist and art dealer Raphaël Petrucci (1872-1917) and Claire Verwee (1873-1956), the eldest daughter of the painter Alfred Verwee, Clairette evolves between 'beautiful world 'Brussels and artistic scene of the Belgian and French capitals. It exerts a particular attraction on authors and artists, being for example the muse of the avant-garde Dutch writer Edy Du Perron (1899-1940).
But in 1923 she finally married his rival, Marcel Wolfers. After an extended honeymoon in Italy, Eastern Europe and Greece, the spouses settle in a luxurious modern apartment designed by Jean-Jules Eggerickx in the heart of Brussels.
Their interior will be photographed and published in the essential Italian magazine Domus in 1930.
During the years of crisis, Marcel and Clairette must move and decide to settle permanently in their old country house, a huge square farm in Vieusart (Chaumont- Gistoux). Each of them has its own workshop.
Marcel has a large sculpture workshop in one of the wings of the ground floor and will later install his lacquer painting workshop there. Clairette has a painting workshop under the eaves. The interior of Vieusart, where Clairette and Marcel receive not only the whole of Brussels, but also artists, writers and intellectuals from around the world, reflects their taste, both eclectic and refined.
His works were shown during the exhibition "Hidden treasures of a couple of artists", Galerie St-John, Gand.
