Jules-louis Rame (ouézy 1855 - Ouézy 1927) - Church (normandy)

Jules - Louis RAME Ouézy 1855-1927 Church in the Cotentin Oil on panel -Monogramed lower left JR- “I have always worked in my village”; I soon painted all the houses and all the trees. I know them from all sides and I am convinced that there is still much to do. For me, the motive is nothing; it is all in the impression that it produces you. ” Jules Rame 1898. Studied painting in Caen, and in 1877, he exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon. His grandfather bought him the Maison des Vignes in 1880 where he built his workshop. Sensitive to contemporary painting, he often frequents the Louvre and Luxembourg, especially the Caillebotte room. From these visits to Paris, from 1885 Rame rethinks its visions and went in search of light on the motif. It will be the magic of color with its series of tables made at any time of the day. He paints relentlessly the millstones, the sheep, the fields, the churches under various aspects. The sun at its zenith or sunset hits the facades of buildings, as in this church in Canon. In 1910, a wealthy Englishman, Lord Ingram bought several of his paintings at the Salon and invited him to the south of Great Britain. They return by Holland.
