This sculpture of Saint John the Baptist shows us the Prophet full of grace and meditation.
Its artistic representation is one of the major themes of Christian iconography. It has been presented in a variety of ways, all depicting an episode in his life.
He is here facing us, standing and has as attribute, a Lamb lying on the book of the Scriptures, symbol of the coming sacrifice of Christ. His beautiful bearded face with lowered eyelids, the folds of his clothes make us very present.

This original piece, with the rest of a beautiful polychromy is a work of the south of France. It dates from the end of the XIVth, beginning of the XVth. There are obviously wear and losses due to the centuries crossed, which do not detract from the strength of this sculpture.

Height; 63.5 cm and Height with the base: 72 cm
