XVIIIth Century Saint Venice Sculpture In Golden Wood
Rare sculpture of Saint Venice in gilded wood, 18th century. Venice could also be the Christianization of Venus, Roman goddess of femininity, venerated in Gaul. She is often depicted in a partially naked bathtub, which is rare in Christianity. It is presented in a standing basin provided with handles. Sainte Vénice wearing a long hair is dressed in finely sculpted drapery. The whole patina and gilded with leaves. Good state of conservation, missing the left arm.
