4 Albums : "originals Drawings By Rembrandt"

When I started a few years ago (yesterday ...), I often asked myself the question "is it well painted?" ".
How to answer it? What is well painted? When we hear people say "It looks like a photo"? Or when you like the subject? Not knowing what to answer, I decided that since the Great Painters were Great, it was that they had made good paintings and started studying them in order to make cross-comparisons. I started with Rembrandt and Leonard de Vinci as godfather and godmother. There is worse as we say in the Basque Country !
I thought I knew them well until the acquisition of these four albums where I rediscovered the extent of Rembrandt's drawing talent through numerous works that I did not know, hidden in collections that are not very visible and practically not reproduced. Here, what happiness! Reproduced in an impeccable phototype in the original colors and format, but all mounted on sheets in album format and bearing a stamp indicating the location, of a remarkable quality that would be hard to match today.
Only 150 copies (this one being n ° 92) by three English, French and German publishers who joined forces in 1888 to produce this masterpiece. Portraits of Orientals, Jews and philosophers, nudes, mythological and religious scenes, breathtaking landscapes, all this treated in different techniques, calame, brush, pencil, red chalk, etc. showing us why Rembrandt is still so modern and influential after 350 years. Innumerable Masters of the following centuries were inspired by it like for example Delacroix from which a delightful and tiny study of lioness which sold recently owed everything to him. The ace !
The state is not there and explains the low price asked. These large 53 X 39 cm albums no longer have a back and 51 plates are missing out of the 200 announced, certainly dispersed to be framed separately.
