Rare view of Montmartre by Adolphe Félix Cals (1810-1880), considered one of the fathers of Impressionism, he is first student of Leon Cogniet, who returns because he finds it too out of step with his painting. He exhibited with the first impressionists alongside Monet his friend at the Salon des refusés in 1863. He is also the friend and patron of Jongkind he helps to settle in France. The painting presents one of the last views of Montmartre before its urbanization. Dated 1850 the work is made during the period (1849-1853) where the artist has his studio in Montmartre. Dimensions 27 x 17.5 cm
