Atlante Between Two Putti

Atlante between two putti, after a work by Annibale Carrache (1560-1609) Italian painter and draftsman. 18th century school, black pencil and white gouache highlights. Bears the stamp at the bottom left of the former Chennevières collection (L2073), art historian and director of Beaux-arts Paris and Bellesme. Charles-Philippe, Marquis de Chennevières-Pointel, is among the amateurs of the 19th century one of the most prominent and sympathetic figures, having collected as much as a connoisseur with delicate taste as an erudite historian. Also his judgment has always been authoritative. Framed, old glass with defects (bubbles and ripples)
