Marius Gourdault was born in Châtellerault, a father gunsmith. He lived in Châtellerault, Le Havre and Paris. In 1873, then aged 14, he studied at the municipal school Lavoisier, where he is a good student. During the year 1877, he is employed at the bridges and roads as draftsman.
