Pair of gilt bronze candlesticks, Empire period around 1807-1810, attributed to Claude Galle. Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronzier and foundry-chiseleur, received master in 1786 and active rue Vivienne, provides the Garde-Meuble of the Crown under Louis XVI but also and especially, under the Empire. He notably makes deliveries for the castles of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the palace of Tuileries. Our candlesticks take again with very slight variations the model of the Castle of Fontainebleau, several pairs acquired near Claude Galle in 1807-1810-1813 for the apartments of Prince N ° 7 (Cour des Cerfs) in 1807, apartment of Prince Sovereign in 1810 (by Thomire Duterme), cabinet of the Emperor at the Grand Trianon palace by Ravrio in 1813. This model was probably created by Galle and under treated in Thomire (or may be the opposite) and still under treated by the one of these two bronziers in 1813 in Ravrio. The Chateau de Fontainebleau and the Mobilier National have identical pairs in their collections. The model is represented in two books of reference: Pendulums and Bronzes of furnishing entered under the first Empire by JP Samoyault - model 150 p172 and in the book the Hour, the Fire, the Light - the bronzes of the national furniture - model 38 page 87. This model stands out for its sobriety and excellent quality of execution. Legs with broad palmettes, was fluted with a quiver .. They are composed of 9 independent pieces (sign of the quality of the model), entirely in gilded bronze with mercury in matt and brilliant (bronze only, no brass parts). Beautiful collector's item of historical quality. Original gilding in excellent condition without wear, really very fresh (some scratches on the foot). Height: 25,5cm Other items available on www.gslr-antiques.com
