Triangular Genoese Corner Game Table (tric-trac) – Louis XVI
Triangular Genoese Corner Game Table (Tric-Trac) – Louis XVI
A rare and elegant triangular folding game table, designed to optimize space by serving as a refined corner console when closed, and as a functional card table when open.
Crafted from fine solid walnut and finely veneered, the piece fully reflects the geometric precision and understated elegance of the Louis XVI style.
It is supported by four distinctive inverted pyramid legs (tapered truncated pyramid legs), typical of neoclassical cabinetmaking, which lend the entire structure both elegance and stability.
The piece’s distinctive feature is its hinged top panel, which opens “like a book.”
Once flipped open, it doubles its surface area, revealing the interior lining of green game cloth (felt slightly glued to the edges and finished along the edges), perfect for card games or board games.
The rear leg is mounted on a sliding mechanism that extends to provide solid support for the top once it is open.
A high-end antique piece of furniture that combines the space-saving ingenuity of late 18th-century design with the timeless charm of conversation and game furniture.
