18th-century Marseille Earthenware Shaving Dish By Fauchier
Artist: Fauchier
A very beautiful and rare 18th-century shaving dish by Joseph Fauchier (1687–1751)
Very characteristic of this faience maker: this high-fired dish features wildflowers and other subjects rendered in a naturalistic style.
A prominent feature of this potter’s work is the use of violet glazes (manganese) and copper green.
As a longtime collector of 17th- and 18th-century French earthenware with violet glazes, this shaving dish by Joseph Fauchier would have been a fine addition to my collection (only one auction catalog at Drouot).
