Biedermeier Table Clock, Vienna, Circa 1830.
Biedermeier table clock, Vienna, circa 1830. The architectural design, inspired by a small classical temple, is embellished with alabaster columns and rich, finely chiseled gilded bronze friezes. The veneered wooden case houses a circular dial with Roman numerals, protected by glass, which offers a glimpse of the exposed mechanical movement.
The top is crowned by an imperial eagle with outspread wings, while elegant winged figures and neoclassical floral motifs appear on either side of the dial. On the front, between the columns, a gilded sun mask stands out, lending further solemnity to the piece.
A fine example of Viennese haute horlogerie from the Biedermeier period, this clock combines formal rigor with rich decoration, making it a highly appealing piece for collectors and lovers of period furnishings.
