Madia chest Bench in Solid Oak with Bas-Reliefs (Late 18th Century)
A superb and rare madia (or table chest-bench) of great presence, made entirely of solid oak and dating from the late 18th century (the 1700s). This piece of furniture is not only functional but represents a true work of cabinetmaking and popular sculpture.
- Material: High-quality solid oak.
- Period: Late 18th century (c. 1780–1800).
- Features: The structure rests on four carved truncated-pyramidal legs. The central body is defined by panels with rich and complex figurative bas-reliefs that probably depict religious, allegorical, or rural-life scenes typical of the popular art of the period. The upper section is fitted with a sloping flip-top lid (or upper doors) that traditionally served as a container for bread or foodstuffs (madia) or as a work/writing surface. Two iron (or dark-wood) rings on the front complete the robust yet elegant design.
- Condition: Excellent overall state of preservation, with a deep, dark patina that testifies to the age and authenticity of the piece. Ideal for collectors and lovers of antiques with strong historical character.
