A Pair Of “sir” Armchairs Designed By Marco Zanusso And Produced By Arflex.
Pair of “Sir” armchairs designed by Marco Zanusso and produced by Arflex.
This model, introduced in 1951 and awarded a prize at the Milan Triennale, is considered one of the great achievements of postwar Italian design. It is recognizable by its wide, enveloping backrest that extends into curved wings, and its low armrests that follow the curve of the seat. The armchairs rest on four tapered brass legs, angled outward and finished with black caps.
They are upholstered in soft sky-blue velvet, which highlights the sculptural lines of the shell. An Arflex France label, “6, rue Gobert, Paris,” is attached under the seat, on the side with the straps.
The elastic straps, woven in green and black, are also in very good condition.
Condition: good, with signs of use. The velvet is in generally good condition, with slight signs of wear visible in the photos. The brass legs have a patina and show minor scratches. The frame is sturdy, and the seats are comfortable.
