Silver Wine Taster
We are selling this exceptional silver wine taster. At first glance, it is indeed extraordinary, but unfortunately it is not from the 18th century. It is actually a German piece from the late 19th century.
Although it bears the hallmark “A. DUMESNII 1776,” this wine taster was likely crafted by a silversmith from the famous city of Hanau (located in Hesse, Germany). The silversmith workshops in Hanau had established an international reputation for reproducing high-quality historical silverware in antique styles: Louis XV, Louis XVI, or Renaissance.
They used so-called “prestige” hallmarks, which resembled old French or European hallmarks while adhering to the traditional German silver fineness standard of 800/1000.
I am a collector of wine tasters myself and purchased this one with full knowledge of its history.
It weighs 189.45 g.
It remains a magnificent piece.
