20th Century Soviet Expressionism Watercolor Portrait Girl W Bows Signed Framed

This vivid watercolour portrait of a young girl with a blush, created approximately in the mid-20th century, is attributed to Artur Vladimirovich Fonvizin (1883 - 1973), one of the most acclaimed and recognizable masters of Russian and Soviet art. The artwork is executed in the unique alla prima technique characteristic of the artist's mature period: the painter works directly with colours, without the use of a preparatory pencil sketch. The model is painted against a translucent airy background: the open gaze, directed at the viewer, is filled with purity and sincerity, while the shy blush and voluminous bows, framing the face in an airy cloud, create an image filled with idealistic innocence. The absence of harsh contours and the inimitable lightness of the brushstroke create an atmosphere of poetic fantasy and gentle understatement, inherent in the finest examples of Expressionism. This magnificent portrait will make a wonderful adornment for a discerning watercolour collection and a refined accent for any interior.
