A Beautifully Carved Normandy Oak Cabinet With A Mesh Pattern, Dating From The 19th Century, Of Very High Quality
In keeping with the practice of the great cabinetmakers and woodcarvers of the era, this unique piece bears no signature from a modern industrial designer but is the result of the craftsmanship of a master Norman cabinetmaker and woodcarver.
Artisans from this region excelled in the art of adapting the Parisian decorative motifs of the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles into provincial creations of rare opulence.
The front of this ceremonial piece of furniture features two large, richly carved doors.
The high-relief carved decoration attests to exceptional technical virtuosity.
The upper crossbars of the doors and the cornice are crowned with bouquets of blooming flowers, roses, and foliage of great freshness.
On the central panels, intricate medallions reveal hanging baskets of flowers and garlands of pearls finely carved from solid wood.
The side posts and central frame are adorned with twisted motifs, godron friezes, and ribbon motifs typical of the Neoclassical style.
The interior of the cabinet, which is fully functional, retains all of its original shelves, accented with gold trim.
It also features a row of three central drawers with bronze pull knobs, offering storage space that is as practical as it is elegant.
The original metalwork fully contributes to the authenticity and refinement of this collector’s piece.
The long lace-up panels and the cut-and-engraved iron lock plates follow the curve of the side posts.
The cabinet still has its original wrought-iron surface-mounted lock as well as its functional original key.
The cabinet rests on slightly scroll-shaped front legs, joined by a low, scalloped crossbar centered with a carved rosette.
Dimensions of the piece:
- Height: 232 cm
- Width: 140 cm
- Depth: 55 cm
