Large Fixé Chinese, Circa 1850

Female figures accompanied by a child in the garden of a pavilion.

At the centre of the composition is a Chinese inscription that can be translated as: “Noble and fragrant flowers are worthy of our friendship.”
Through the symbolism of flowers, this poetic expression evokes virtue, nobility of spirit, and friendship.
Large painting under glass, circa 1830–1850, painted in a studio—likely in Guangdong—for the European market.

The carved wooden frame is typical of this type of painting, as is the wooden plank backing.
A visible gap in the upper right corner.
