Small Art Nouveau Tabletop Planter Or Centerpiece Made Of Crystal And Gilded Bronze – Circa 1900
An elegant small Art Nouveau-era tabletop planter or centerpiece, circa 1900, consisting of an oval container made of thick, transparent glass—likely crystal—set within a rich, openwork frame of gilded bronze with a patina.
The setting features a remarkable naturalistic composition of tulips, flowers arranged in umbels, and foliage with supple, sinuous stems—all characteristic of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
The flowers, finely modeled in relief, offer a beautiful interplay of gilding and coppery hues, while the foliage retains a few touches of greenish patina, accentuating the piece’s botanical character and overall refinement.
The oval container, with its thick, transparent walls and gently curved lines, harmoniously complements the metal frame. Its transparency allows one to appreciate the delicacy of the floral motifs, which extend around the entire perimeter of the object.
The piece rests on four small circular feet with guilloché decoration, connected by a molded border that highlights the base of the container.
This charming miniature planter could hold a small floral arrangement and serve as an elegant ornament for a table or piece of furniture.
A fine example of the decorative arts of the Belle Époque, combining glasswork with a particularly refined metal frame, in the naturalistic style of Art Nouveau.
